Summer has been wonderful in Colorado, and we wanted to take an opportunity to update you on what has been going on at AT&T.
For 113 years, AT&T has been taking the lead on keeping Colorado connected and meeting the demands of our growing, resilient state. In just the last three years, we’ve invested more than $646 million into our Colorado network to ensure we keep all Coloradans connected. But there is more work to be done.
Building upon our current and planned investments in Colorado, we continue to extend the reach and increase the capacity of the FirstNet communications platform. FirstNet is the wireless broadband service developed in coordination with the FirstNet Authority specifically to improve communications among first responders and public safety entities.
The wireless industry continues to deploy small cell technology for improved capacity while laying the groundwork for 5G service. Innovative partnerships have allowed AT&T to minimize the need for new infrastructure, such as our collaboration with Xcel Energy to use their poles for small cell technology.
Our investment in Colorado isn’t limited to network and public safety. AT&T is increasing the number of retail stores throughout the state to better serve all our customers. As described below, we already have 269 retail locations in the state, including seven stores that were opened in the past year, and we have plans to add seven more.
As we move into 2020, I look forward to sharing with you other ways we are committed to Colorado and working together to ensure investment in our community continues.
